The Lighter Side of Debt Collection - Sheriff's Cars Repossessed
Cairo is a small town 150 miles southeast of St Louis, Illinois and is where the mighty Mississippi and Ohio rivers converge. It seems three of the Cairo Sheriff 's four cruisers or patrol cars were repossessed by the local First National Bank leaving Sheriff David Barkett to run his team with just one police cruiser. The problem is budget restraints which had already led to the recent layoff of 75% of the department (11 employees including 10 deputies) as the department is cash strapped. Following meetings with federal and state officials, Sheriff Barkett was able to buy back one SUV and was expecting more cars to be donated to his department.
