A Texas man claims his new Motorola Droid 2 phone exploded in his ear while he was on a call.

Aron Embry, 30, said he was getting in his car to travel to work when he decided to make a call.

In the middle of his conversation the phone 'burst outward' injuring the side of his face, he said.

Hot conversation: Aron Embry, 30, from Texas said he was making a call when his new Motorola Droid 2 phone exploded in his ear leaving him bloodied

'I just heard a pop. At first I didn't know what to think', Mr Embry said adding that he then noticed blood trickling down his neck and saw broken glass on the phone's speaker.

Although the phone itself was left intact, the screen was ruined.

Mr Embry said he started to panic and drove himself to a local elementary school where his wife work so she could take pictures of his injuries.

The couple had purchased two of the phones just two days earlier.

Mystery: The phone was left intact but there was broken glass on the phone's speaker and a cracked screen

His wife Kara Embry said he terrified co-workers when he arrived with a blood-splattered face.

Mrs Embry said: 'My co-worker said "There's a man at the door and he's bleeding. I think he's been shot."'

Mr Emry was taken to a Dallas hospital by ambulance where he received a cat-scan and four stitches.

He was given pain medication and discharged soon after and doesn't think he will suffer any hearing loss from the incident.

Pain: Mr Embry and his wife both bought a new Droid 2, two days prior to the incident and are seeking legal representation to recoup his medical costs from Motorola

Mr Embry said he did not have insurance to cover the $4,000 medical bill and expects Motorola to cover his costs and is seeking legal advice.

Motorola said in a statement customer safety is their highest priority and will contact Mr Embry and investigate the case.

Phone explosions are a rare occurrence and usually related to the lithium-ion battery swelling or catching fire.

But as the battery in Mr Embry's handset was unaffected, the cause of the explosion has not yet been determined.
