Cream for skin cancer may improve the appearance of wrinkles, study suggests

A cream used to treat pre-cancerous lesions of the skin also reverses
signs of aging, study of American scientists has revealed. Besides
to remove protuberances suspected skin damaged by sun, drugs
fluorouracil improves the appearance of wrinkles, dark spots and olheiras.

Patients with pre-cancerous actinic keratosis (patches that are distinguished
only by the tan disappear by surgery or chemical treatment)
can expect, as a side effect of treatment, have a skin
look younger, according to articles written by researchers
in the medical journal "Archives of Dermatology."

Experts warn, however, against the use of drugs for
purely cosmetic purposes, saying it can cause severe
reaction in the skin. The treatment encourages the body to produce new skin
healthy to deliberately damage the outer most layer of skin,
well as in chemical peeling and laser treatment.

Testing
In tests with 21 volunteer patients with actinic keratosis
and skin damaged by exposure to the sun, the scientists applied cream
with fluorouracil twice daily for two weeks and found a
significant improvement in the skin, with the removal of stains and pre-cancerous
the reversal of some signs of injuries caused by the sun.

The team of scientists led by Dana Sachs, the School of Medicine
University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, said: "Without doubt, there
patients who want a therapy as the application of fluorouracil to
cosmetic purposes because of the relatively low cost of this therapy in
compared to the use of laser. "Sachs added that this strategy,
however, "can not achieve the same degree of improvement" achieved with the
Laser treatment of wrinkles.
