The latest barcode scanner app sends the products code you are scanning to Apple so they even know what food and other stuff you have bought using the iphone as the scanner and cash device. NWO. they have a nifty Operating System that's way ahead of everything Microsoft or Linux can do . Their Software is designed for that OS, so the software can offer also far more advanced stuff than in Windows or Linux.
that "iOS" on the iphone/pad/pod is more or less the very same OS X that you find on Macs - it only is trimmed down and has that special UI to fit the screen and of course optimized for fingers instead of mouses.
Version by Version, starting with the "invention" of itunes and their music store back in the early 2000's they turned the OS into a controlling thing and so went the apps the same way.
The next major OSX version for the Desktop ( 10.7 "lion" ) contains all those "iOS" stuff - so the future is one OS for all Apple branded hardware, generic no matter if Desktop or iphone. But turned around that means all the vendor-lock-in and all the tracking tools are also on your next new iMac Desktop.
So, yes techically one can by all means adore Apple. Compared to Microsoft Apple has a taste for "wow" software and a taste for design plus the feeling for trends to come.
